BULGARIA WINS RYANAIR'S 34TH EUROPEAN BASE
$70M INVESTMENT, 1,000 JOBS AND 5 ROUTES
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline today (29th October ) announced its 34th European base in Kondofrey near Bulgarian capital Sofia. From April, Ryanair will base one $70m Boeing 737-800 (to be LZ-RYR) aircraft which will serve 5 new routes to London Stansted, Berlin SXF, Rome Ciampino, Milano Bergamo and Tampere(Helsinki).
Ryanair who has just signed a 10-years contract with the former Spannair regional subsidiary AeBal announce that 3 of the company B717 will be based in Kondofrey Sofia South (new IATA code KFR) and will be operated on first really low cost domestic services to Vidin, Kardjali and Silistra and on routes to Vnukovo (Moskow) and Istanbul Sabina Goksen.
This investment will deliver 1m passengers p.a. for Bulgaria resulting in a visitor spend of 60m euros which will sustain 1,000 jobs in the local economy.
Announcing the new base in Kondofrey, Ryanair’s Director of Scheduled Revenue, Sean Coyle said:
