Bucharest Airports to start construction of new terminal in 2022

BUCHAREST (Romania), September 7 (SeeNews) - Bucharest Airports National Company, CNAB, intends to start construction of a new terminal worth 818.5 million euro ($977 million) which will double the combined capacity of the company's two airports.
The works are expected to begin in 2022 and will take three years to complete, CNAB officials said in a press release on Wednesday. The projected investment does not include the money that will be paid for expropriations.
The new terminal at the Henri Coanda airport will have 25 gates and 56 parking spaces.
CNAB operates Bucharest's main airport Henri Coanda and a smaller airport, Aurel Vlaicu. Combined traffic at the two airports rose 20.5% year-on-year to 5.92 million passengers in the first half of 2017. The combined number of take-offs and landings at the two airports rose 9.3% on the year, reaching 61,800 in the first half of 2017.
A total of 41 airlines operated from the Henri Coanda airport during the period January-June. The airport handled 5.91 million passengers and registered 55,600 aircraft movements in the six months through June.
Encouraged by the strong results in the first half of the year, CNAB said it expects the two airports to handle a total of 12 million passengers in 2017.
Combined traffic at the two international airports rose 18.3% year-on-year to 10.99 million passengers in 2016, the highest number on record since 2010, when the separate operators of the two airports merged to form CNAB.

Добре са направили - на стария терминал денем ставаше доста нагъчкано, а пък перманентната опашка пред единствения (sic!) ATM беше направо култова.

Ben Gurion Airport to undergo $1.43 billion expansion

Upgrades meant to help handle expected 50 percent increase of passengers over the next five years

Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport will undergo upgrades and expansions at a cost of $1.43 billion.

The Israel Airports Authority announced the plans on Monday, saying the upgrades are necessary to accommodate an expected 50 percent increase in passenger turnover in the next five years, the Israeli business daily Calcalist reported.

Earlier this week, the airport welcomed 2017’s 20 millionth passenger, according to Calcalist.

Among the scheduled upgrades: 86 additional check-in stations, more stations for self check-in, plus six more luggage screening machines. The airport also will add eight passenger boarding bridges and two additional shuttle gates.

Construction of a new Terminal 2 is scheduled to absorb domestic flights after the closure of Tel Aviv’s Sde Dov airport, the business daily Globes reported.

VINCI wins Belgrade Airport concession

The French concession and construction company VINCI has submitted the best bid for the 25-year concession for the financing, development through construction and reconstruction, maintenance and management of infrastructure of Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, the Public Body overseeing the process has announced. The French came ahead of three consortia who also submitted binding bids. The government will now enter into direct negotiations with VINCI, with the deal expected to be finalised by late March. The concession and construction company will provide an up-front payment of 501 million euros, a further annual tax payment of between five and sixteen million euros and have obliged themselves to invest 732 million euros into the airport.

VINCI Airports is one of the top five international players in the airport sector with 132.3 million passengers handled in 2016 and 35 airports operated worldwide. In Europe, VINCI runs ten airports in Portugal (44.5 million passengers), thirteen airports in France (16.7 million passengers) including Lyon-Saint Exupéry and Lyon-Bron (9.6 million passengers). Outside of Europe, VINCI holds concessions for the three international airports in Cambodia (seven million passengers). In Chile, VINCI Airports, through a consortium with ADP and Astaldi, operates Santiago-Arturo Merino Benítez Airport (19.2 million passengers). In the Dominican Republic, VINCI Airports operates six airports (4.7 million passengers), while in Japan, the company holds the concession, as part of a consortium with Japanese partners, for the two Osaka airports (40.1 million passengers).

VINCI announced its intention to vie for a concession of Belgrade Airport back in 2014, inking a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of joint projects. At the time, Vinci Airports Chairman, Nicolas Notebaert, said, "VINCI Airports have an ambition to cooperate on the development of Belgrade Airport and other Serbian airports. We are interested in long-term partnerships". The French company lost out in a bid to acquire a majority stake in Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in 2014, for which it offered just over 100 million euros.

The concession process commenced on February 10, with 27 companies expressing initial interest. Under the terms of the concession, the individual bidder or consortium cannot hold more than 20% of the share capital or voting rights of an airport with more than one million passengers located within a 450 kilometre radius from Belgrade. As a result, this immediately disqualified Aéroports de Paris, the Marguerite Fund, Bouygues Bâtiment International, TAV Airports, Limak and Fraport. Apart from VINCI, binding bids were also submitted by the consortium made up of Meridiam Eastern Europe Investments, Zurich Airport International and Eiffage, a consortium consisting of Incheon International Airport Corporation, IC Ictas Altyp Iyitirimlari VE Isletme and VTB Capital Infrastructure Holdings Limited, as well as the consortium comprising of GMR Infrastructure Limited and Terna S.A. (Tourist Technical and Maritime Society Anonymous).
