While attempting to hasten SkyEurope's demise in June 2009, Wizz Air claimed it had been "profitable for several years". However, as a private company it is not required to publish its financial accounts - annual reports are still available. In November 2009, it emerged that Wizz Air was significantly loss-making and had never made a profit while delaying the pay-back of €32 million of debt by five years. Losses since commencing operations total €78 million, which, in 2009, fueled suggestions that the airline would file for bankruptcy. Since then Wizz Air reported profits in 2012, in 2013, in 2014 and in 2015.

European airline earnings have been pressured by a glut of seats for sale that has depressed ticket prices. Central European rival Wizz Air Holdings PLC last week lowered its full-year net profit figure and easyJet PLC, the No. 2 discounter after Ryanair, last month signaled its profit would be lower due to fuel costs and currency headwinds. And carrier SAS recently said it would move some operations out of its Scandinavian home markets to cut costs and better compete with rivals.

The sharp fall in the British currency after the country's vote to leave the European Union has also hurt carriers exposed to the pound. Ryanair, which generates about a quarter of its sales in the U.K., said the pound's weakness contributed to the profit drop.

A shift in popular tourism hot spots due to political instability in Turkey, Egypt and North Africa has also weighed on fares.

Афter Ryanair ventures with Hungarian Wizz Air, the next low-cost airline in the Lufthansa home airport Frankfurt. Wizz Air will inform on a press conference at the largest German airport on the extension of the stretch network on Tuesday, informed the airline from Budapest on Monday. Lufthansa is thus gaining new competition at its hub.

A person familiar with the plans told the news agency Reuters, Wizz Air will start in summer with a connection to the Bulgarian capital Sofia from Frankfurt. Speakers of the two companies did not want to express themselves. In Germany, Wizz Air has been flying to smaller airports for the most part, but was the market leader among low-cost airlines in Eastern Europe last year with almost 23 million passengers.
In a month, Ryanair, a low-cost airline, will also be launching its first flight from the Rhine-Main Airport. The stationing of two jets of the Irish caused a dispute between Fraport and Lufthansa . The crane operator accuses the airport operator of having lured Ryanair to Frankfurt with an unfair tariff discount. Fraport, on the other hand, emphasized that the estate was limited in time and that all newly established companies at the airport were entitled to it. The Frankfurt Group wants to take more low-cost airlines into the flight schedule due to the slow growth of Lufthansa.

WIZZ AIR ADDS FRANKFURT AIRPORT TO ITS LOW-FARE NETWORK

TWO NEW DAILY SERVICES TO BUDAPEST AND SOFIA

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, today announced that it will start operating low-fare flights from Frankfurt Airport launching two new routes to Sofia and Budapest, the capitals of Bulgaria and Hungary. The newest WIZZ services will commence on 22 May and 15 December, respectively and will be operated daily. Seats on the routes are already on sale from just EUR 29.99* on wizzair.com.

By adding Frankfurt Airport to its growing route network, Wizz Air now connects 137 destinations across 40 countries providing millions of passengers with reliable air traffic operations, very low fares and a friendly, consumer oriented service. In 2016, Wizz Air carried 2,7 million passengers on its German routes, which represents 22% growth and supports 2,000 local jobs** in aviation, transportation, hospitality and tourism industries.

The newest routes from Frankfurt Airport will be operated with brand new, state-of-the-art Airbus A321 aircraft. With 230 seats on board, the Airbus A321ceo is the most efficient single-aisle passenger aircraft. In addition to the refreshed livery now appearing more frequently in the fleet, the A321ceos feature new interior colors, a lighter cabin ambiance, soft leather seats, and more cabin seating choices.

FRA & HHN!
