http://www.chronicle.bg/avio/etihad-sht ... do-dablin/

Etihad to end A340 ops by October 2017

Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) will phase out its A340 aircraft by the end of October according to Airline Route.

The carrier will deploy its last A340-500 A6-EHD (msn 783) on the route Abu Dhabi Int'l to Rabat on July 28. The flight will then be switched to an A330-300 on August 2. Etihad's fleet of seven remaining A340-600s will stay in service until October 28, 2017.

Etihad has previously committed to phasing out its entire A340 fleet by the end of 2017.

"We want to invest in a uniform product, the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350," said Jean Paul Drabbe, Etihad's General Manager Netherlands, as reported by Luchtvaartnieuws Magazine earlier this year.

Разпада на имеперията на Еtihad продължава. Днес те са продали Etihad Regional на Adria Airways. Новото име на компанията ще бъде Adria Airways Switzerland  :axe:

Adria Airways buys Etihad Regional

Adria Airways has purchased Etihad Airways' upscale Swiss arm Etihad Regional (formerly known as Darwin Airline) through its new subsidiary Adria Airways Switzerland. Etihad Regional was relaunched in early 2014 to attract Europe's business travellers. The airline will be rebranded into Adria Airways Switzerland. "The decision to sell this minority stake (33.1%) in Darwin is the result of our current strategic review of our investments and the choice to focus on our other partners", Kevin Knight, Chief Strategy and Planning Officer at the Etihad Aviation Group, said. Other shareholders have also sold their stake in the business to Adria, which now has 99.1% ownership in the airline. The remaining 0.9% interest will be acquired shortly. The value of the transaction has not been disclosed, but is believed to be financed by Adria's owners 4K Invest..

In a statement, Adria Airways' CEO, Arno Schuster, said, "Darwin is an excellent airline with experienced management and staff. The expansion of our network and the resulting optimisation of cost structures is a win-win situation for both companies". Adria's Chief Financial Officer, Heinrich Ollendiek, will become the new CEO of Adria Airways Switzerland. Despite the name change, the airline will retain its Swiss Air Operator's Certificate (AOC), as well as bases in Lugano and Geneva. The President of Darwin Airline's Board of Directors, Emilio Martinenghi, said, "We are convinced that thanks to the considerable experience and strong destination network, especially in the Southeast European market, Adria Airways will have a very positive impact, not only on the future of Darwin, but also on the Canton Ticino, the region we serve and which requires good connections to the rest of Switzerland and Europe". He added, "Darwin Airline is well capitalised and solvent, thus able to honour all of its commitments to creditors".

Etihad Regional uses a fleet of six fifty-seat Saab 2000 turboprop aircraft, as well as four ATR 72s, which are currently being operated on behalf of Alitalia. The airline runs flights across Europe, offering passengers direct connections to dozens of major cities. It also taps into a half-dozen points served by Etihad and its codeshare partners Air Berlin and Air Serbia. Etihad's sale of its stake in Etihad Regional represents its first divestment since launching a company-wide strategic review last year of its shareholdings in other carriers. When launching Etihad Regional in January 2014, the former Etihad CEO, James Hogan, described the deal as "a step-change" for the business.

4K Invest, a turnaround fund from Munich, signed a contract for the purchase of a 91.58% stake in Adria Airways at a price of 100.000 euros early last year. It later bought the remaining stake in the Slovenian carrier in order to secure 100% ownership. The transaction marked its first investment in the aviation sector. Since its purchase of Adria, 4K has brought in several new aircraft, boosted the airline's flight network, closed the carrier's base in Poland, ended a commercial cooperation agreement with Estonia's Nordica and has attempted to reduce the company's losses. However, it is yet to publish Adria's 2016 financial report. Late last year, Adria named Captain Tiziano Ponseggi, the Director of Operations at Etihad Regional, as its new Chief Commercial Officer.

Etihad Posts $1.87 Billion Loss in Worst Blow for Gulf Carriers

Etihad Airways posted a $1.87 billion annual loss, revealing the full extent of the pressures facing Persian Gulf carriers as they grapple with the impact of terrorism on global traffic flows and a low oil price that’s crimped local travel.

The 2016 loss came after Abu Dhabi-based Etihad booked a $1.06 billion charge from writing down the value of aircraft and a further $808 million hit from the reduced value of stakes in so called equity partners including struggling Air Berlin Plc and Italy’s Alitalia SpA, which filed for bankruptcy in May.

The earnings reversal, revealed Thursday, comes after Dubai-based Emirates, the biggest Gulf carrier and the world’s largest long-haul airline, in May reported its first annual profit decline for five years. Mideast airlines are facing the first serious challenge to years of breakneck expansion that have seen them exploit their position at a natural crossroads to win a major share of the lucrative inter-continental travel market.

“This year is just as challenging for the global aviation industry and the ever-evolving competitive environment is likely to impact overall performance in 2017,” Ray Gammell, interim chief executive officer of Etihad Aviation Group, said in a statement. The company didn’t publish full group numbers, and the hit from partners includes only the impact of commercial ties rather than losses there.

Etihad is continuing to implement group-wide changes as part of a strategic review, Gammell said, as well as assessing its minority holdings following an exit from Switzerland’s Darwin Airline last week.

The group is also continuing its search for a permanent CEO following the departure of Australian James Hogan, who hatched the investment strategy to catch up with rivals Emirates and Qatar Airways.

Yields, a measure of fares, fell 8 percent in the year, Etihad said. Prices dropped across all cabins, with business class worst hit as some premium travelers downgraded to economy with crude still in the doldrums.

Emirates willing to cooperate with rival UAE airline Etihad

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Emirates [EMIRA.UL] is open to cooperation with rival Etihad Airways in areas including procurement, its president Tim Clark said on Wednesday, adding a full merger between the pair was unlikely but up to the owners.

Based in the United Arab Emirates, Emirates and Etihad have competed to build global networks from their respective hubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, even as they battled overcapacity, security concerns and a fall in regional business travel.

“I think there is value to be had working more closely with them,” Clark told Reuters by phone, adding there might be concerns from regulators in some foreign markets.

“There are many areas that the airlines could work together on like procurement. But we have to go the first jump first to understand what it is we could do and I‘m simply the manager of one of the businesses,” he said.

“It is my superiors who have to make that call, not me.”

When asked if the pair could pursue a merger along the lines of Europe’s Air France and KLM, Clark said: “I don’t think that will be the case but it is not my call, really. It is whatever (the shareholders) may do in the future.”

Emirates is owned by the Dubai government while Etihad is owned by the Abu Dhabi government.

Etihad, which has been hit by loss-making investments in Air Berlin (AB1.DE) and Italy’s Alitalia [CAITLA.UL], said in response to Clark’s remarks that it was common for airlines to leverage in-country expertise and economies of scale.

“We constantly seek opportunities for innovative collaboration with other organisations, where it makes business and commercial sense,” an Etihad spokesman said in an emailed statement.

Last month, Etihad announced it would appoint Tony Douglas, former boss of Abu Dhabi’s airport and London’s Heathrow, as its CEO from January as it rethinks its expansion strategy.

EMIRATES ORDER PLANS

Emirates, a bigger airline than Etihad, is the largest customer for the Airbus SE (AIR.PA) A380, a plane facing slowing production rates due to a lack of sales.

Clark said an order for more was under consideration, adding that any A380 order would help replace 25 A380s due to be retired in the mid-2020s.

He did not give any details on the likely volume of any order or whether a deal would be signed at the Dubai Airshow next month.

“Airbus would love us to do that but we’ve got a few things to sort out first so I‘m not sure that we’ll get there for the airshow,” he said.

The airline is separately looking at the Airbus A350 and the Boeing Co (BA.N) 787 to meet its needs in the 250-300 seat market, Clark said. Last month he told Aviation Week magazine that a planned order was “off the table for now”.

In 2014, Emirates canceled an order for 70 A350s.

Clark said Emirates’ procurement and operational groups were engaging with both manufacturers about potential orders.

“I don’t want to focus on the Dubai Airshow,” he said of the timing. “The important thing is to get the right deal for the company at the time that suits us, not driven by a guillotine of the middle of November.”

Etihad cancels A320neo order for Air Serbia

Etihad Airways has cancelled its order for ten Airbus A320neo aircraft which were to be delivered to equity partner Air Serbia. Deliveries were initially due to begin last November. However, Airbus' latest backlog revision has revealed that the order has been scrapped. They were set to completely replace Air Serbia's existing fleet of A319s and A320s. The Serbian carrier secured the narrow-bodies as part of a major fleet order by Etihad at the 2013 Dubai Air Show, for up to 117 Airbus aircraft. Etihad’s outstanding Airbus commitments, at the end of December, comprised of 22 A350-1000s and forty A350-900s, as well as 26 A321neos. Its first A350-1000 is currently in final assembly.

The delivery of the neos to Air Serbia was originally slated between late 2018 and 2020. A previous deposit payment made by JAT Yugoslav Airlines for eight A319s in 1998 was credited against the pre-delivery payment for the neos. Upon making the order in November 2013, Air Serbia said, "The new fleet of Airbus A320neo aircraft is a key part of our strategy to re-position the airline as best in class with the most modern and comfortable single aisle aircraft. These aircraft will offer our guests the best cabin in the sky. With these A320neo jets we will set the benchmark in both product and service excellence as we extend our network to more destinations across Europe".

In 2013, Siniša Mali, who was at the time the Adviser for Economy and Finance to the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia, and who today holds the post of Finance Minister, said the government had agreed with Etihad Airways to take the aircraft for Air Serbia. "This is good for Air Serbia and the people of Serbia, because both have benefited from economies of scale resulting from Etihad Airways' very significant order with Airbus. With the delivery of these ten new aircraft between 2018 and 2020, Air Serbia will be the first airline in the region to have a modern fleet of new Airbus aircraft. The last delivery of a new jet to Jat Airways, the former national carrier, was in 1988", Mr Mali said. He added, "Furthermore, through our partnership with Etihad Airways, a previous deposit payment made by Jat Airways, has been credited against the pre-delivery payment for these aircraft. This is a very good result for the people of Serbia". Air Serbia itself has ignored all inquiries regarding the A320neo order from various media outlets over the past several months.

The 2013 Transaction Framework Agreement between Etihad Airways, the Government of Serbia and Jat Airways, states:

"Without limitation, the GoS (Government of Serbia) undertakes to: fund, and assume all liability for, any costs and liabilities associated with the JAT 1998 purchase contract with Airbus, in relation to which Etihad shall seek to assist JAT and/or the GoS in any discussions/negotiations that JAT and/or the GoS may have with Airbus with a view to reducing JAT's exposure to such costs or liabilities. For the avoidance of doubt, if at any time while the Management Services Agreement is in force, JAT and Airbus reach an agreement to purchase aircraft under the terms and conditions of the 1998 purchase contract then theGoS shall not be liable for the purchase price for any such aircraft;"

Etihad Airways, which has been undergoing restructuring after its strategy of investing billions of dollars in other airlines failed, plans to cut fifty pilot jobs by end of this month, two sources who have seen an internal memo by the airline said. Etihad also said in the memo it made a “significant loss” last year and that this would continue into 2019.
